The Android Galaxy S5 is one of the most talked about Android smartphones out in the market. It may not have the best specs among smartphones, but it sure comes with new and exciting features that will both compare and rival its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and other smartphone flagships. It sure is a great buy.

However, if you are not too keen on buying a new smartphone, you can download these free apps on the Google Play store that can mimic the most talked about features of the Galaxy S5 into your Android device.

Heart Rate Sensor

Samsung Galaxy S5 supports a healthier lifestyle with the inclusion of the Heart Rate Sensor that enables you to measure your heart rate directly on your phone. This feature can be mimicked by downloading the free app called Runtastic Heart Rate. It measures your heartbeat with great accuracy using the camera sensor on your smartphone.

Selective Focus

This is by far one of my favorite features of the Galaxy S5. It allows you to focus on what is important by accentuating the main subject and blurring the background. You can even change the focus after the picture has been taken.

The latest Google Camera app, available to those running Android 4.4 KitKat and higher, has a feature called Lens Blur that can shoot SLR-like photos. This feature allows you to adjust the amount of background blur you want on a photo, similar to the Selective Focus feature of the Galaxy S5.

Private Mode

Private Mode is a convenient way to hide files you don’t want others to see. This feature allows you to select the media types (photos, videos, music, voice recorder, and personal files) you want to be viewed only in Private Mode. The items you select to be in Private Mode can only be accessed by entering the correct PIN or unlock pattern.

The AppLock app is an app that offers similar, if not, more functionality than Galaxy S5’s Private Mode. It can lock SMS, Contacts, Gmail, Facebook, Gallery, Market, Settings, Calls, and any app you choose from being accessed by someone other than yourself, unless they know your PIN or unlock pattern.

Kids Mode

Kids these days are exposed to new technologies. They especially love to play around with their parent’s smartphones and tablets. The Kids Mode feature of the Galaxy S5 provides parents the ability to restrict their kids from accessing certain apps and media contents. Making your Galaxy S5 kid-friendly by transforming your device’s user interface with new icons and wallpaper.

The Kids Mode app from Zoodles is one of the most popular Parental Control apps for Android devices. Not only does it provide free games and apps appropriate for children, it also allows parents to set up different profiles on the Android devices and restrict access to apps and games they deem inappropriate for their children. With the Child Lock feature, you will no longer have to worry about in-app purchases, deleted texts, and changed device settings.
